Interpreting the Symbols

The Six of Wands has many symbols to reflect on; these are the primary ones:

  • White horse : Horses in general are symbols of power, control, authority, and speed. The white color of its coat suggests nobility of a material or spiritual nature.
  • Colorful horse tack : The horse’s festive gear reinforces the happy mood of the occasion and lends additional prestige to the rider and procession. The green color suggests newness, surprise, and renewal.
  • Rider : Well-dressed and in command, the ride carries a wand held high; the wand is topped with a celebratory laurel wreath.
  • Attendants : Messages usually come in groups and happy occasions are best shared. The victory depicted on the card has affected everyone; each member of the team is increased and improved as a result of individual successes and abundance can be shared.
  • Wands : The Wands suit is traditionally associated with fire and is connected to mental activity, learning, willpower, decision making, strategizing, and dreaming.
  • Six : The number six is firmly a part of the heavenly realm having transcended the four material elements and the single space/time element.

Charmaine’s Take

The Six of Wands can seem like a straightforward card of victory, success, and good news after a struggle. However, the rider is not facing the viewer; he is looking off towards a distant horizon. Even though he has succeeded in some endeavor this is not the end of his journey. He knows that he cannot rest on the laurels of past successes; he has to think about ways to overcome future challenges and conflicts.

This card often reminds me that success is very rarely an individual achievement. The effort of many people is required to give a person the means to make an attempt in the first place. When it appears, it can be a reminder to give credit where credit is due and to be a gracious winner.
