The Three of Swords certainly is one of the least looked-forward-to cards in the deck. There are brutal symbols on its image that few people are excited to see. Still, loss is an essential and temporary part of life, which is what makes being alive so sweet.
There are few ways to interpret the Three of Swords that do not involve loss of some kind. Whether the loss is upcoming, in your past, or something you are currently going through is up to interpretation. It is also variable whether it means loss of a loved one, love itself, physical possessions, professional endeavors, or opportunity.
It can be easy to focus on the pierced heart on the Three of Swords, but it is not the whole story. The rain behind the heart may be the most important symbol present. The cool, refreshing rain is coming and it will wash away heartbreak. If you are currently grieving, acceptance may be on its way. If loss is upcoming, let this card serve as a symbol of strength. If you persevere, you may be able to minimize your grieving period and return to happy life quicker.

Interpretation
This card is a testimony to the sadness that has recently gripped you. It indicates the pain and resentment that you have felt about someone, harmful feelings that unfortunately tend to isolate you even more from your loved ones. If your romantic relationship ended in difficult circumstances or one of your friends betrayed you, don't succumb to resentment.
Sadness is a normal part of the human lot. In spite of all the efforts you make, you'll never escape it completely. To avoid having to struggle unnecessarily, it is better to calmly accept the difficulties you are currently experiencing. Although they may seem intolerable for the moment, they also have the power to cause a thorough going transformation in you.
By taking a step back from your situation and analyzing the reasons for the failure, you will soon be able to set off on the path of life again with a firm and decided step. Your character is shaped and made stronger by the pain you feel. So, don't let yourself get lost in the storm and try as much as possible to keep your eyes on the future.
